The Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU) is equipped with a wide range of advanced instruments that support high-quality biomedical, molecular, clinical, and translational research. These sophisticated facilities play a vital role in disease diagnosis, molecular analysis, drug development, environmental monitoring, and advanced laboratory investigations. The availability of modern analytical and diagnostic instruments enhances research capabilities and provides opportunities for innovative scientific studies.
Among the major instruments available in the MRU is the Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) system, which combines gas chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques for the separation and identification of chemical compounds. It is widely used for detecting environmental pollutants, pesticides, metabolic disorders, and toxic substances. Similarly, the High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) system is extensively utilized for pharmaceutical analysis, forensic testing, and biochemical investigations. HPLC helps in accurate separation and quantification of compounds based on their interaction with stationary and mobile phases.
The unit is also equipped with advanced molecular diagnostic technologies such as Real-Time PCR (RT-PCR), PCR thermal cyclers, and Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) systems. RT-PCR is highly useful for gene expression studies, viral detection, cancer research, and molecular diagnostics. FISH technology enables chromosomal analysis and detection of genetic abnormalities, particularly in cancer cytogenetics and prenatal diagnosis. These molecular tools provide highly sensitive and accurate results for clinical and research applications.
Cell culture and live-cell research are supported through specialized instruments including CO₂ incubators, live cell analyzers, fluorescence microscopes, and biosafety cabinets. The CO₂ incubator maintains ideal conditions for mammalian cell growth, while live-cell analyzers allow continuous monitoring of cellular activities in real time. Fluorescence microscopy is extensively used in immunology, microbiology, genetics, and neurobiology research to visualize cellular structures and biomolecules.
For clinical diagnostics, the MRU contains automated analyzers such as ELISA readers, hormone analyzers (CLIA), hematology analyzers, electrolyte analyzers, and automated biochemistry analyzers. These instruments facilitate rapid and precise testing of hormones, tumor markers, blood parameters, enzymes, and biochemical profiles. Such facilities are essential for routine diagnostics, research studies, and monitoring disease progression.
The unit also possesses supporting laboratory equipment including refrigerated centrifuges, gel electrophoresis units, gel documentation systems, lyophilizers, deep freezers, water purification systems, spectrophotometers, pipettes, incubators, and tissue homogenizers. These instruments ensure proper sample preparation, storage, analysis, and documentation for diverse research activities.
Overall, the MRU provides a comprehensive research environment with state-of-the-art instrumentation that significantly contributes to scientific advancement, academic research, clinical investigations, and interdisciplinary collaborations. The availability of these advanced technologies strengthens the institution’s capacity to conduct high-quality research and supports researchers in achieving accurate, reliable, and reproducible outcomes.
