The Department of Neonatology was started at Madurai Medical College and Government Rajaji Hospital in 2018. Neonatology is a rare super specialty that provides comprehensive care for newborn babies up to one month of age. Our institution is one of the very few medical colleges in the country offering the DM Neonatology super specialty course. The department is the second dedicated Neonatology specialty department in Tamil Nadu after ICH, Chennai.

The department provides daily neonatal intensive care services, high-risk newborn follow-up services, outpatient services, antenatal fetal clinic services, elective and emergency newborn care, and round-the-clock emergency services for newborn babies.
